Letter Lover

Dear Rhone

Rhone is the man I’m dating. This is significant because I haven’t dated anyone in a about a year. I haven’t dated a fellow artist (as he is) in several years. And I haven’t dated a Jewish man—ever. There’s a lot going on.

He actually spells his name Ron, but it’s pronounced Rhone. Since Rhone is a cool name and Ron (short for Ronald) is not, I chose to spell the name thus far the way it sounds so that you had the right name in your head. I will switch now to the way it’s really spelled out of respect for him and his birth certificate.

What can I say? I can say it’s nice to do nothing but talk to someone all afternoon and feel productive. I can say he’s very honest, and that’s refreshing. For example, he told me he was relieved when he saw that my handwriting isn’t as good as he thought it would be. I got a kick out of that and chose to write him a letter anyway. I can say he has a very sexy voice. He has sexy other things, too, but one must be careful what she blogs about*. He’s a filmmaker and is working on this righteous documentary project. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to blog about it, so I’ll err on the side of silence. But I can say that the project has him worked up, excited, and exhausted. Passion is one of my favorite facial features.

Shortly after our third date I gave up alcohol for Lent. Ron was a good sport about this. Not that I’m a big drinker, but dates and bottles of wine tend to go nicely together. Roughly two weeks into Lent, he started making reservations for our first post-Lent date, which will happen sometime next week. I am, however, going to drink wine this week at a Seder he’s hosting on Thursday. Everyone relax! Lent ends on Palm Sunday (today) and not Easter. Needless to say this is a big week for both of us—it’s Holy Week for me and Passover for him. We both have relaxed (read: sick) senses of humor regarding our religious differences. It makes for good conversation and even better jokes.

* Those of you who’ve read my books know that I am not shy when it comes to intimate details. However, a book is not written in real time and a blog is, and thus I am more cautious here. Also, I always let everyone I’m writing about know that I’m writing about them (when the subject matter is private that is). Ron won’t discover this write-up until he receives his letter . . .

April is National Card and Letter Writing Month, and I’ve vowed to write one letter each day. Also, please check out the essay contest I’m hosting with Giftin24.com.
