I Look Like a Sewer Rat
I had to share this comment Masa left about The Facebook Photo Facade (3 blogs down):
On another note… this blog reminds me of “Linda! Linda!” performed by The Blue Hearts (which I cited in a past blog). The lyrics go something like, “I want to be beautiful like a rat, because of the intrinsic beauty that can’t be captured by pictures.”
So I Googled the lyrics and discovered it’s a Japanese Song. I could only find this verse translated (but it just so happens to be the verse we need):
“Dobu nezumi / mitai ni / utsukushiku naritai / shashin ni wa / utsuranai / utsukushisa ga aru kara.” (“I look like a sewer rat / yet want to be beautiful / it doesn’t show in pictures / because there is beauty there.”)
Thanks for leading us to this unique correlation Masa. Hooray for sewer rats!
Christina also left a great comment saying that we humans are ALWAYS putting on fronts—not just on Facebook. I agree wholeheartedly (and hope to cure myself of this someday). I think Facebook puts that specific behavior in a glaring florescent light because it’s easier to front in a place where you choose what information and photos do or do not get posted.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise to be selected out of the many wonderful comments left by the compassionate fans of letterlover! I find it to be a classic that keeps me in a happy mood. For anyone may be interested, youtube has a version with subtitles. Yes, you’re beautiful inside and out. I find your motivation to refine your personality very admirable. Don’t stop being yourself.
On another note… I can relate to Christina’s comments, as I have a tendency to compartmentalize parts of my life, as I tend to keep my personal life private from work. I also tend to stay mum about major accomplishments, because actions speak more than touting one’s position, whether it be authoritative, or other circumstances. If you’re being honest and not misleading others, I think it’s okay to have various façades in your personality.
