The Recession-Proof Artist
I wish I could embed this, but I’ll have to link to it instead. I’ve never been so inspired and encouraged by a 22-year-old. Watch it if you have a chance!

I had a chance to read the article linked to this clip, and was very amazed at how artists sustain a living during these difficult times. There are parts of me that are resourceful, but I feel like I’ve been way spoiled and indulgent after seeing Alexander Conner survive on a small income while pursuing his love for art. Thank you for sharing this wonderful article.

Are. You. Fucking. Kidding Me?
this “artist” has no student debt and saves up $200 a month out of the $12,000 annual salary he gets. His parents paid for his college, meaning they probably pay for a bunch of other shit which isn’t highlighted in the video.
He makes his art and doesn’t have money to spare to, what, get a latte? Please. This is completely voluntary. He’s got muscle on his arms; he’s not starving! His glasses are fine; the bed he sleeps in is fine; he has framed art on the walls; he is able to take art supplies from his job; he bakes his own freaking whole-wheat bread!
The Times is so out of touch, but so are a lot of their readers.
