Letter Lover

Feeling the Love

I was getting all weepy-eyed and sentimental earlier this week when I realized that not only do I have awesome commentators, but that they also have incredible blogs. It’s about time I shout you all out! How amazing, really, that we are scattered all over the country (world!) and we can meet up and share our thoughts both logical and random. Thanks so much for playing. {Note: I put these in alphabetical order to avoid the favoritism ;}

Andrea is a fellow trekkee (sp?) who lives life to fullest and shares her thoughts with us at the inspirational blog Some Silken Moment. Visit now while she has an awesome Ellen DeGeneres clip up! She joins us from San Francisco.

Aunt Amelia is a blogging fool with three of them up and running: 1. Aunt Amelia’s Attic 2. Dear You (this one is about letter writing) and 3. Aprés le sent. Thank you for offering your wit and wisdom here, there, and everywhere.

Care, a clever New Englander, has created the ultimate online book club at Care’s Online Book Club. She knows all about the benefits of having a virtual community, and I applaud her dedication. I start (and never finish) too many books to blog about it.

Carla is the mastermind and very dedicated letter writer behind 365 Letters, which I’ve praised before. She has vowed to write one letter every day this year. A round of applause please! She enlightens us from Texas.

Christina is the femme fatale behind Stacked—a lively and versatile book blog featuring everything from classical literature to enriching non-fiction. She’s a woman after my own heart living it up in Manhattan. I must ask, is that you in the provocative photo up top?

Frankie Robertson explores strange new worlds at her eponymous Web site FrankieRobertson.com. She is still considering the idea of a blog from her hot spot in the desert southwest. I’ve got my fingers crossed that she goes through with it!

Joselle came to one of my journal writing workshops. Her boyfriend came along and he was the only man (props!). She is warm and wonderful. She co-authors of a fun, fabulous food blog called Mutual Menu and she operates right here in the tri-state (Philadelphia) area.

Marie was a first time commenter this past Sunday, and I’m so glad she spoke up! She is the overseer of a rockin blog dedicated to Vintage Postcards. Oh la la, she lives in France.

I heart Natasha—the ingénue from California who writes at Natasha Meets World. She is as charming and curious as I wish more 21-year-olds were.

Stephanie runs a lovely blog called Sunbeam Soapbox. She where she writes about knitting, letter writing, and random musings that come to mind. July marks the one year anniversary of her blog. Happy Birthday! Doth my eyes deceive me or do you write from Austria (my favorite place that I’ve never been)?

Tara gives us her View of the World from Ontario, Canada. She, like me, had no idea that she would love the art of blogging as much as she does. Her posts are refreshingly honest, and she has some sweet giveaways.

Wendy —who hails from the great state of Arkansas—has created the most comprehensive site dedicated to letter writing that there is at A Passion for Letters. I haven’t gotten through all of the links yet. There are so many! She has a lot of fun over there, and I make great discoveries every time I stop by.

And, of course, there’s Maggie (deep in the heart of Texas), Masa (from a southern state called Louisiana), Jinnayah (who chimes in from Massachusetts, and who I owe a letter!), Rodney (Hawaii in the house), Martha (in the Windy City known as Chicago), Laurie (also near Chicago), Lisa (another Texas gal), and Matthew (in Paoli, PA)—who don’t have blogs but who I love just the same! {Note the non-bloggers are not in alphabetical order, but don’t read anything into it.:}

If I overlooked you, my sincere apologies. I skimmed my back comments rather quickly. Call me on it, and I will gladly give you your moment to bask in the LetterLover sun.

  1. Rodney Says:

Hey how come it’s mostly wahine (women) with blogs??? I am contemplating, blog or Facebook. Or are they the same? Anyway I think I’d rather be using a fountain pen, just gotta steal some time…maybe from Twitter!

  2. Samara Says:

Ha! I noticed that too, Rodney—the estrogen levels present in this list. I don’t think it’s mostly women with blogs, I think it’s mostly women with blogs who visit my blog. Which is why I’m glad you and Masa and Matthew are here!!

A blog and Facebook are very different (though Facebook is often used to promote blogs and blogs to promote Facebook pages. Madness!). If you join Facebook then you upload your information and photos into a pre-existing design, and you don’t necessarily have to write thoughts/musings—though it is an option. Whereas a blog is designed by you and the purpose is for you to enlighten, emote, and say whatever you need to say.

  3. Stephanie Says:

Hey, what a cool list. While I do check out the blogs of people that comment, it’s usually a cursory glance through, so this overview of who everyone who comments here is enlightening. Neat to see who else is interested in letter writing!

Your eyes don’t deceive you–and I’ll be writing from Austria for only two more weeks. This is my study abroad semester and I wanted to go to a German-speaking country to improve my German skills. (I’m now fairly confident with them!) I’m very, very sad to say though that I’m going back to California on 1 July. I’m really going to miss it here.

  4. Carla Says:

Thanks for including me in your wonderful list! When I started my blog, I didn’t really expect to make so many friends. Oh, I suppose I hoped people — strangers — would visit my blog. That’s sort of the point of it all… But, I never really gave much thought to the idea of becoming friends with the people who would visit. Then, I received your delightful e-mail, Samara, and a friendship was born! What great fun I’m having!

  5. Samara Says:

Here, here Carla! I didn’t expect to make actual friends either. People who I would really want to give a big hug upon first meeting.

  6. Christina Says:

“femme fatale” Don’t believe I’ve been described that way before but it does capture the attitude I hope to get across on Stacked! And yes, that is me in the header image.

Thanks for including me on you list - It’s amazing what sorts of relationships have developed from blogs - getting to know commentors on your own and following a labyrinth of links can be a fascinating journey of getting to know people you otherwise would miss out on meeting and sharing ideas with.

  7. Care Says:

Thanks for the Linky-Love! I love your blog; what you post about is ALWAYS so interesting.

  8. Samara Says:

Stephanie, a friend of mine and I might (might) go to Vienna in September. Too bad you won’t be there anymore. You’ll have to tell me where to go if it does end up happening. And I wouldn’t be sad about returning to California. It could be worse. You could be headed to the east coast where it’s been in the 50s and rainy for the past few weeks.

  9. Samara Says:

Christina, Yup, Femme Fatal is what I picked up on right away. And I love that pic that much more now that I know it’s you!

  10. Samara Says:

Aw, thanks Care, that’s kind of you to say. I hope I can keep it up!

  11. Maggie Says:

    Samara:

Thanks for including me!! I love your blog and your books!! I love your honesty and passion for the written word. Keep ‘em comin’!!

  12. Stephanie Says:

Yes, at least I’m going somewhere with pretty good weather, and I can get to San Francisco pretty easily. But I will miss Vienna. It’s grown on me the past few months.

I’ll have to start comprising tips for people going to Vienna. There’s so much to do. You should definitely spend some time reading newspapers in a cafe… er, bring your own newspaper though, most there would be in German.

  13. Joselle Says:

Samara, thanks so much for including me on this list. It’s been a delight getting to connect with you. And now I have more blogs to check out! Christina, you are indeed a femme fatale! We should all be so sexy when we tuck into a book.

By the way, that lone male you met at your workshop is no longer my boyfriend. No, he is now my fiancé! We are getting married!!!! He just proposed on Friday!!!!!!!

As you can tell, I’m still very giddy.

And I’ll be moving to Philly in August.

    WOOHOO!

  14. Masa Song Says:

I enjoy reading what you have to say, as well as the heartwarming responses.
Thank you for mentioning me in your blog. I’m happy for you because there are many friendly, supportive, and loyal commenters visiting letterlover. I had a chance to visit a few blogs, and would love to catch up on plenty more. Thank you for introducing us to each other.
