"I think the safest thing to do when
you write someone a letter is assume that you won’t get a response. "

My policy includes this but extends to "..but assume they will." I find writing style is more natural that way and like you said, gives them the room to respond if they choose to.

Yes, I suppose my approach is a little on the pessimistic side. Whatever works better for your letter-writing pratice. Now I sound like a yoga instructor!

Samara:

Thank you for responding to my comment. And I thank everyone for their responses too!! I moved away from a town I lived in for almost two decades, and I try to write those who don't use email to keep up with me. I was getting discouraged by them not writing back, as I try to stay connected to my friends "back home". I know they are busy, but I felt like my efforts we starting to be a waste of time, but now I know that they do appreciate my letters even though they may not respond. I know I appreciate every letter I receive! Thank you for the encouragement to keep writing!!

And thank you Samara and everyone for the stationery source ideas!! I will definitely be checking those out! I do have one site to add to the list. I found www.lettersets.com. The stationery is "cute-sy" and may be a little juvenile for some, but would be worth checking out for a little girl who wants to write letters, and it's not too expensive.

Thanks again for all the feedback! I really appreciate it!
