Letter Lover

I Miss the Rumpled Corners of Correspondence

My friend Anna Post (Emily Post’s Great-Great-Granddaughter) posted a link to this poem by Allison Joseph on Facebook yesterday. It’s called Elegy for the Personal Letter. I often have a tough time with poems that don’t rhyme, but this one flows like a friendly river—capturing everything we letter lovers love about letters. This will surely be the next poem I memorize.

Hey, that reminds me that you memorize poems. This seems like a worthy poem to memorize myself.

Now that I drive in much earlier for work, I miss out on the 9 am broadcast of “Writer’s Almanac” (unless I’m really late). Just like you mentioned in “For the Love of Letters,” I can relate to how hand written letters will always move up the queue over bills and junk mail. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful poem.
