Never Have I Ever

Have you ever asked another person to write an emotionally-charged letter on your behalf?

The reason I’m asking is because a lovely woman named Cathy FitzGerald is making a thirty-minute radio documentary for the BBC about love letter ghostwriting. She asked to interview me about my time as a ghost-letter writer and was wondering if she could also speak with people on the other side of the experience—those who have hired (formally or informally) a letter writer.

I am in the process of contacting clients I once wrote letters for to see if anyone is interested in telling his or her side of the story. I, of course, understand if people don’t want to go public with the fact that they hired a letter writer. I am somewhat hopeful, however, that a brave soul will step forward because the last letter I wrote professionally was more than 5 years ago. Time gone by often gives us the freedom to speak about something we never would have admitted to in the moment.

In any case, if you ever asked a friend, family member, or the local Cyrano de Bergerac, to write a love letter on your behalf AND you’re willing to talk about the experience please contact Cathy or myself.
