I Can’t Breath

On December 3, 2014, I posted the below on FB when I found out there would be no indictment for the officer who put Eric Garner in a choke hold. Six years later and NOTHING has changed. Replace the words “selling loose cigarettes” with “forgery” and “Eric Garner” with “George Floyd” and you have hearts that are endlessly broken and a justice system in desperate need of repair.

“My heart hurts. Unlike the Michael Brown case, this incident was taped and unbearable to watch. There is no ambiguity here. The police officer killed a man for selling loose cigarettes. I feel so helpless right now. My thoughts are with Eric Garner’s family and our broken system.”

WAIT! I just saw that Derek Chauvin, the officer who suffocated George Floyd, has been taken into custody. No charges announced yet. Is it possible? Could it be? Justice, are you there?
